There is no such inescapable intensity in Odor Exorcism products, for a couple of reasons.

1. It’s hard to achieve the level of scentinsity emitted by Febreze and other synthetic-fragranced odor eliminators using only natural ingredients.
2. We don’t want the scent of Odor Exorcism to be inescapable, or to hang around for too long. The lovely scent should last as long as the essential oil droplets (and other odor-fighting ingredients) are doing their jobs, and then it should mosey on.

Conclusion

Natural febreze scent longevity vs synthetic

Before we get too deep into it, we want to address the question that’s on everyone’s mind: do natural odor eliminator sprays last as long as their synthetic (AKA evil) counterparts?

The answer is no. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

In the world of odor elimination, the optimal state of things is neutral, otherwise known as smell-free. And this is for a very good reason.

If it smells bad, that means there’s some kind of matter or materials there that’s emitting a foul odor. That matter or material needs to be removed, not simply masked over.

1. Fragrances derived from petrochemicals lasts longer than natural alternatives (like premium essential oils)—even when you want them gone

Consumers often judge an air freshener’s potency by how long it lasts. After all, we all want that great smell to hang around forever, right?

Well, maybe not. Take this redditor’s experience trying to escape the all-consuming cloud of Febreze his wife has been crop-dusting all over the couch:

Long story short, my wife’s been spraying scented Febreze from time to time on a couch we have stored somewhere outside the main house.

Now, she brought over that couch to our living room and all I can smell is the fragrance of the Febreze. I’m fairly sensitive to fragrances, they tend to give me headaches and there’s something weird about the Febreze: the scent doesn’t fade away.

It’s just embalming the whole living room and you know how when you’re in a room your brain stops registering the scents and it’s only after you get out of that room and come back that you smell it again? Well the Febreze scent doesn’t stop registering, every breath I take I can smell it and it just bothers me.

Any tips on how to get rid of the scent of Febreze from that couch?

Take if from this tortured Redditor: Febreze should never be stored within reach of children lest an accident should occur.

3. You can make anything you want with synthetic ingredients (even scents not of this world)

When we were originally formulating the delicious, bright, fresh, and uplifting scent of Odor Exorcism’s OG natural odor eliminator spray, the catalog of chemicals we perused was one full of premium, aromatherapy-grade essential oils. If it didn’t occur in nature, it wasn’t a part of our consideration set.

Febreze, on the other hand, has a full team of full-time scent scientists who are limited by no such adherence to natural origins. They can create whatever scent they want, even if what results is about as natural as the faces of the Real Housewives of LA.

Take Febreze’s Ocean scented spray. There is no ocean scent in nature. (Well, there is, but it’s not practically bottleable.) So what did Febreze do? The devised a devious cocktail of synthetic fragrance chemicals that, together, smell like what they imagined the ocean to smell like.

But don’t be fooled by their tricks: just like in life, if the scent seems too good to be true (AKA, natural), it probably is.

4. Synthetic chemicals are cheaper (but potentially more costly for your health)

Take it from an exorcist who’s purchased a lot of essential oils: the natural stuff doesn’t come cheap. Even in bulk, pure lavender, citrus sinesis, and frankincense essential oils are orders of magnitude more expensive than synthetic alternatives.

And don’t even get us started on the fermented radish root Leucidal we use to make the whole formula shelf stable, which is the most expensive ingredient in the bottle. Liquid gold might be cheaper…

But these are the prices we must pay to fill our containers—and your homes—with only natural freshness.

When operating at such a massive scale (like Febreze does), the forces of capitalism are powerful, and they demand efficiencies at every turn. The cost, of course, is natural purity.

5. They don’t want you to know what’s in it

This one specifically applies to the fragrance (parfum) ingredient which is found in every Febreze product, and most other (unnatural) odor eliminators.

You see, in 1967, the US passed a law called the Federal Fair Packaging and Labeling Act which established many new rules pertaining to the listing of ingredients on the labels of consumer packaged goods products (like odor eliminators).

The one carve-out? These new rules could not be used to force a CPG manufacturers to disclose ingredients which they considered to be trade secrets, an umbrella which ultimately grew to include the ingredient category fragrance.

Today, that carve-out is used by cologne, perfume, soap, laundry detergent, and yes, odor eliminator manufacturers to conceal the true nature of the fragrance formulations that go into the products we spray on ourselves and in our homes. (We, of course, end up breathing in these concoctions and suffering the consequences of doing so.)

Which begs the question…if you weren’t trying to conceal what was in your product, why would you need to hide behind a trade secret?

Odor Exorcism has no such ingredient opacity. On the contrary, the ingredients that go into all of our products are listed plainly on the back of our labels and on the product pages of our website.

For us, ingredient transparency is a non-negotiable.

Conclusion

Our account was suspended before we even had a chance to run afoul of Meta’s rules. #ZuckSucks

“What does this mean for me?” you’re probably thinking to yourself.

We’ll get there, we promise.

Does Mark Suckerberg hate exorcisms?

Before we evaluate the implications of this promotional interdiction, we need to dive deep into the background of Mark Zuckerberg to see if anything in his personal history might allude to a grudge or bias against exorcisms or exorcists like us.

Born into a Jewish family in White Plains, New York, Mark has at times declared himself an atheist while also acknowledging the importance of religion.

He did meet with the late Pope Francis in 2016, but the pope was not able to convert the tech mogul during that visit, at least according to reports. His Holiness also passed up the chance to perform an exorcism on Zuckerberg—even a quick one—during their time together. (We can’t say that our very own Father Olor Fresco would be able to exert that kind of self-control given the opportunity.)

Without additional evidence, we can only conclude that Zuckerberg is likely neutral on the topic of exorcisms. Moving on…

What is Mark Zuckerberg’s favorite horror movie?

Several credible sources like Business Insider and Memorizer.ai have published commentary or all-out lists of some of Mark Zuckerberg’s favorite films. In sum, those articles paint a picture of Zuckerberg’s movie tastes, and that picture is telling.

Included in these lists are movies like Moneyball, Iron Man, The Dark Knight, and Django Unchained, all great in their own right. He is also reportedly a big Star Wars fan, likely on account of the undeniable resemblance between himself and The Emperor.

What is noticeably absent from all of these top-10s is a horror movie of any kind. Even more notable is the absence of an affinity for the greatest film ever made, William Friedkin/William Peter Blatty’s The Exorcist.

Zuck seems like more of a The Ring guy, or maybe even The Amityville Horror (the 2005 Ryan Reynolds remake, not the original). We can surmise that one of these inferior horror films probably is on his list somewhere, but just not in the top 10.

So why is Odor Exorcism banned from advertising on Meta ad platforms?

After this scholarly evaluation, the only conclusion we can come to is…we don’t know.

If that’s an unsatisfying end to this journey, well, join the club. Maybe Zuck just sucks. (To be clear, we wouldn’t be the first to levy that accusation at Zuckerberg, and we probably won’t be the last.)

What we do know for certain is that we have been banned from spending money on the Meta advertising network…a judgment which is final and for which there is no appeal.

It’s not like we really wanted to contribute to Zuckerberg’s Hawaii bunker fund. Far from it. If we had our druthers, we would go back to theses nailed to doors as our primary means of advertising.

But when running a consumer packaged goods brand in 2026, social advertising is a reality and a necessary evil. Platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit are where the eyeballs are…so that’s where advertisers (like Odor Exorcism) have to spend their time—and money.

Which brings us back to the original point of this whole announcement…what does this promotional persecution mean for you?

If you’ve ever sprayed something that promised “fresh mountain air” only to watch a bad smell resurface minutes later, you already understand the core problem with most odor eliminator products.

They don’t eliminate odors. They decorate them. Enter: Odor Exorcism.

True odor elimination is not about scent.

It’s about chemistry, biology, and a little bit of molecular discipline. At Odor Exorcism, we focus on removing the cause of odors instead of disguising the evidence. To understand why that matters, it helps to know what odors actually are and how real odor eliminators shut them down.

Antibacterial sprays for odors (scientific evidence)

An odor is not a vague “smelly thing.” It’s a collection of airborne molecules that interact with receptors in your nose. Many persistent odors are caused by bacteria. Kill or suppress the bacteria, and the odor stops being produced. This is especially important for organic odors like trash, pet accidents, sweat, mildew, and food waste.

Odor elimination at the molecular level (without the lab jargon)

Odor molecules tend to be small, volatile, and reactive. Many contain sulfur compounds, amines, or organic acids that the human nose is extremely sensitive to, even at very low concentrations.

Limonene is an effective solvent. That means it can break down greasy residues, oils, and organic buildup where odor-causing bacteria like to hide. Many stubborn odors cling to surfaces that aren’t truly clean, even if they look fine. Limonene helps strip away that invisible layer.

By removing the material that feeds odor-producing microbes, limonene doesn’t just freshen. It destabilizes the odor at its source.

Sodium citrate: quietly correcting the environment

Sodium citrate is a salt derived from citric acid, and its strength lies in pH control. Many odor-causing bacteria thrive in specific pH ranges. Shift the environment, and they struggle to survive.

Sodium citrate helps create conditions that are less hospitable to microbes without being harsh or corrosive. It also supports overall formula stability, ensuring the odor eliminator continues working as intended over time.

Think of it as environmental control rather than brute force.

Alcohol: fast action, broad impact

Alcohol serves multiple purposes in an odor eliminator, and speed is one of them.

It evaporates quickly, which helps carry active ingredients into porous surfaces like fabric, carpet, and upholstery. Alcohol also disrupts microbial cell membranes, reducing bacteria that generate organic odors.

Additionally, alcohol helps dissolve volatile odor compounds so they can be neutralized more efficiently. It doesn’t linger. It works, then gets out of the way.

Leucidal SF Max: targeting the microbial root

Many persistent odors are biological in origin. Trash smells, pet odors, mildew, and “mystery smells” often trace back to microbial activity.

Leucidal SF Max is a naturally derived antimicrobial preservative that helps control the growth of odor-causing bacteria and fungi. By interrupting microbial reproduction, it stops odors from being continuously regenerated.

First and foremost, when we were developing Odor Exorcism, we set out to see if we could create an odor eliminator made from all natural ingredients. This was a seemingly simple aim that turned out to be a whole lot more involved and complex than we initially thought…

Natural fragrance

If you’ve ever sprayed a bottle of Odor Exorcism into a possessed bathroom, the first thing you probably noticed was the delicious, sumptuous aroma. It was by intelligent design—not fragrance chemicals—that this delightful scent came to be.

In order to create the ODX smell, we turned to a category of raw products that has been around since before Jesus: essential oils.

The essential oils that go into every bottle of odor exorcism (and our prayer candle, for that matter) are included because their aromas are beloved, they are of pure origins, and they are biblically relevant. Only aromatherapy-grade essential oils ever make it into ODX products, and the quality can be felt (and smelt).

Mild disinfection

The chemists among us may already know this, but all three essential oils (lavender, orange, and frankincense) included in our products contain the chemical compound limonene. (Orange contains more limonene than the other two.)

As we have written about before, limonene occurs naturally in the skins of citrus fruits and is a wonderful mild disinfectant. It disrupts bacterial growth and destabilizes microbial membranes which prevents foul odors from being emitted.

In addition, the inclusion of grain alcohol in our formula bolsters the product’s antimicrobial action. This works in the same way that alcohol disinfects in hand sanitizers and window cleaners.

pH balance

While we all love wonderful smells, a true odor eliminator does just that: eliminate odors.

One way of achieving that lofty goal is to balance the pH of organic materials by moving them close to neutral—neither acidic nor alkaline.

One ingredient in every bottle of Odor Exorcism that does just that is sodium citrate. This critical—and natural ingredient—works to neutralize acidic odor molecules to make them as scent-neutral as water. An all-natural odor eliminator wouldn’t be complete without it.

Natural preservation

The next time you order a side of kimchi, you might look at it a little differently, because that delectable pickled vegetable works wonders as a natural preservative.

In liquified form, it’s known as Leucidal, and it’s among the most important ingredients of the whole formula. It is a natural, probiotic-based, broad-spectrum preservative derived from Lactobacillus ferment, offering superior antimicrobial protection for DIY skincare (serums, creams, lotions).

Glass > plastic

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times: the earth has enough plastic in it.

Beyond that, glass is truly an exorcist’s best friend, as we have written about before. And honestly, could you image Father Karras or Father Merrin rolling up to Regan’s room with a plastic bottle of holy water?! Of course not!

For those who have been living under a rock, most plastic isn’t even really recyclable, and because of the complexity of separating different kinds of plastic, most of the plastic that could be recycled isn’t.

Glass, on the other hand, is infinitely recyclable, and frankly just feels better in the hand when you’re about to send a satanic scent to hell where it belongs.

Sustainable farming practices

Odor Exorcism strives to select only raw ingredients which meet important sustainability protocols pertaining to farming and labor.

Bulgarian lavender is considered a highly sustainable, eco-friendly crop, often grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, and helps prevent soil erosion due to its robust root system. The cultivation practices are largely natural, just the way we like it.

The sweet orange essential oil in every bottle of ODX is also considered highly sustainable because it is largely a byproduct of the juicing industry. In this process, orange peels (which would otherwise be thrown away) are cold-pressed for their essential oils, which is captured and then packaged for use in products like ours.

1% of all sales goes to climate change non-profits

We don’t really care if it’s en vogue or not—the earth is warming, and that’s a problem. So, instead of complaining about it, we’re putting our money where our sprayers are and donating a full 1% of sales (not profits, but sales) to climate change initiatives which have proven themselves effective in the existential fight against global warming. Every time we hit $3,000 in sales, we donate $30 to one of these initiatives, as evidenced below:

3. Transparency

Lastly, we have maybe the most important piece of the “world’s best odor eliminator” formula, and that’s transparency.

Every bottle of Odor Exorcism lists plainly the ingredients that can be found therein. All ingredients are also listed on every one of our product pages.

That’s not something that can be said for synthetic (and potentially evil) alternative odor eliminators like Febreze. We’ve tried to find more information on exactly what is in every plastic-laden bottle of the stuff, and our journey always ends the same way: “fragrance.” (And you know how we feel about that ingredient.)

Frankly, an odor eliminator with hidden ingredients has something to hide. That’s not ODX, and never will be.

Conclusion

Yeah, to even be considered for the honor of World’s Best Odor Eliminator, it takes more than a formula that “smells good.” As we see it—as consumers, not as exorcists—to even be considered, your product should be naturally pure, sustainably sourced, and unapologetically transparent.

When graded by those measures, Odor Exorcism stands alone.
